The Southern Illinois Salukis men’s track and field team will begin its outdoor season at the Margaret Simmons Invitational in Murray, Kentucky, scheduled for March 20 and 21.
The event marks the team’s first outdoor competition of the year. Throwing events are set to start at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, followed by field events at 12:30 p.m., with running events beginning at 4 p.m. The meet will continue Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m. and is expected to finish around 5 p.m.
Director Jones said, “As our outdoor campaign begins, we are excited to get outdoor and begin competing. We have recovered and reset from the indoor championships and season, so competing at Murray State this weekend will be a good early season test for us. It also helps that this weekend has favorable weather for us to try and compete well so we look forward to these opportunities.”
Southern Illinois Salukis Men’s Track and Field competes at the NCAA Division I level as part of the Missouri Valley Conference, according to the official website. The program operates from Carbondale, Illinois, and utilizes the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex as its primary venue, according to the official website.
The upcoming meet provides an opportunity for athletes to transition from indoor competitions and assess their performance early in the outdoor season.
