State Representative Dave Severin has announced the launch of his Annual Summer Reading Program for students in grades 1 through 4 within the 116th district. This initiative, aimed at encouraging young readers, offers a special incentive: a pool party at the Mt. Vernon Aquatic Zoo for those who complete the challenge.

Severin expressed his enthusiasm for the program, stating, “I’m thrilled to once again sponsor this year’s ‘Oceans of Possibilities’ Summer Reading Program. I look forward to this event every year. I love encouraging students to keep reading during their summer break and to give them some incentive to do so.” He added, “We will have a great time hosting a pool party for the students who successfully participate in the program. I welcome all 1st through 4th graders in the 116th district to participate!”

The reading club invites children to read eight books over their summer vacation. Books from local library programs are eligible, and any book exceeding 150 pages can be counted as two books. Upon completion, parents or guardians are required to verify their child’s reading by submitting a form either by mail or online at RepSeverin.com/summer-reading. The deadline for submissions is August 6, 2025.
