There were three offenders convicted of drug crimes released on parole in Williamson County during the fourth quarter of 2020, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Carbondale Reporter.

The data shows that two men and one woman were among the parolees. Of the parolees sentenced for drug crimes, one was a veteran, and the median age was 34. The youngest parolee was a 30-year-old man sentenced in 2019, and the oldest was a 37-year-old man sentenced in 2019.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Brenden D. Buzick. He was convicted in 2019 when he was 28 years old. He is now 30.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
