Illinois State Representative Paul Jacobs (R-Pomona) recently appeared on The Morning Newswatch on WJPF Radio. During the interview, he addressed several topics, including his ongoing efforts to pass the Ultrasound Opportunity Act (HB 1340).
The proposed legislation outlines specific requirements for facilities where abortions are performed. It mandates that a physician or qualified person offer women seeking an abortion after eight weeks of gestation the chance to receive and view an ultrasound of their unborn child. This must occur before any part of the abortion is performed or induced and before any anesthesia or medication is administered. The act includes exceptions in cases of medical emergencies as determined by the attending physician.
The bill also contains a severability provision and would take effect immediately upon passage.
