Murphysboro High School is part of Murphysboro Community Unit School District 186, which serves Jackson County and includes Carruthers Elementary School, General John A. Logan Attendance Centre, McElvain School, and Murphysboro Middle School. According to the Illinois State Board of Education, the district employs 147 teachers with an average salary of $53,770; approximately three-quarters are women and one-quarter are men.
