Murphysboro High School highlighted recent successes of its Red Devils boys varsity basketball team and community partnerships in a series of posts on February 14, 2026.
In one post, the school announced, “Red Devils get the Win and because they scored over 67 points, Martel’s will have BOGO slices on Tuesday, 2/17. Thank you Martel’s for being a great sponsor to our Red Devil Athletics!” (February 14, 2026). Another post detailed the team’s season achievement: “Red Devils Boys Varsity Basketball Team wins 19th game of the season. Murphy 74, Chester 54” (February 14, 2026).

Murphysboro High School is part of Murphysboro Community Unit School District 186, which serves students from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade across Harrison and Jackson counties. The district includes Carruthers Elementary School, General John A. Logan Attendance Centre, McElvain School, Murphysboro Middle School, and Murphysboro High School (source). In the 2019-2020 school year, enrollment was reported at 1,947 students (source). The district’s student body is comprised of approximately 69 percent White students, with Black students making up nearly sixteen percent and Hispanic students just over seven percent (source).
District financial data show spending per student reached $19,142 in the year 2020 for a total expenditure exceeding $37 million (source). According to state education records for that same period, there were no teachers with more than ten absences during the school year among the district’s faculty; women make up about three-quarters of teaching staff (source). Chronic truancy rates in the district stood at about seven percent in comparison to a statewide average near ten percent (source).
