In an update posted at 20:58 UTC, Murphysboro High School stated, “This weekends Dance competition has been cancelled due to weather. Our Dazzlers will be performing tonight at the JV and Varsity Basketball game halftimes.”
Murphysboro High School is part of Murphysboro Community Unit School District 186, which serves Jackson County and includes several other schools such as Carruthers Elementary School and Murphysboro Middle School. The district comprises 147 teachers with an average salary of $53,770 and maintains low teacher absenteeism rates. Its student body is demographically diverse, being approximately 69 percent White, nearly 16 percent Black, just over seven percent Hispanic, and a small percentage Asian. In the year 2020, the district spent $19,142 per student for a total expenditure of over $37 million (Illinois Report Card).
