Miami defeats Southern Illinois baseball team 11-0 in home opener

Southern Illinois University’s baseball team was defeated 11-0 by Miami University in their home opener at Itchy Jones Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Miami scored runs in five different innings, with three runs coming in the fourth and four more in the seventh. The RedHawks recorded 11 hits, while SIU managed only five hits during the game.

Kye Watson, Tim Simay, Michael Mylott, Andrew Savage, and Henry Kufa each contributed a hit for Southern Illinois. Despite getting runners on base and hitting two doubles, the Salukis left five runners stranded and did not score any runs.

Pitcher Bryce Kimball took the loss after giving up two earned runs over three innings. Dylan Petrey pitched 3.1 innings out of the bullpen. Gavan Wernsing, Tyson Greene, and Jace Kirby handled the final 1.2 innings of relief.

With this result, Miami improved its record to 7-1 for the season, while Southern Illinois fell to 1-6 after this midweek matchup.

Looking ahead, SIU is set to host Seton Hall for a three-game series starting Friday, February 27 at Itchy Jones Stadium. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
