There have been 1,428 confirmed coronavirus cases in Jackson County as of October 18, with 25 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (89,392 cases) and Cook County (74,520 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 3,016, while Cook County recorded 2,341 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 6,775,553, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 68,766 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 162,092 were male and 176,404 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,953, while female deaths stood at 4,261.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 4,531 Asians, 4,531 whites, 2,277 African-Americans, 1,806 Hispanics, and 208 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
