There have been 11,545 confirmed coronavirus cases in Jackson County as of Jan. 12, with 103 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (489,529 cases) and Cook County (476,604 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 6,497, while Cook County recorded 5,909 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 47,411,987, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was under 20, with 530,214 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 1,174,237 were male and 1,310,262 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 15,680, while female deaths stood at 13,124.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 17,945 whites, 5,244 African-Americans, 4,209 Hispanics, 925 Asians, and 481 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
