There have been 336,174 confirmed coronavirus cases in Illinois as of October 16, with 9,165 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (87,575 cases) and Cook County (73,070 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 3,007, while Cook County recorded 2,332 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 6,618,768, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 67,185 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 158,432 were male and 172,293 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,921, while female deaths stood at 4,244.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 4,495 Asians, 4,495 whites, 2,271 African-Americans, 1,800 Hispanics, and 208 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
