A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Murphysboro City Council in Illinois on October 15, 2024. The request was made by the Carbondale Reporter, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The FOIA request seeks a list of all council members with specific details including their names, titles, years of appointment, term lengths (2 or 4 years), and term expiry dates. This information is crucial for maintaining transparency in local government and ensuring that public institutions are held accountable.

As a media organization, we at the Carbondale Reporter believe in the importance of public access to such records. They play an essential role in our ability to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include providing accurate information to the public and holding institutions accountable.

We have requested that this information be provided in an electronic format for ease of dissemination. Given our role as a media organization dedicated to reporting news to the public, we have also asked for a fee waiver for this request.

We await the response from the Murphysboro City Council and will continue our efforts to provide transparent and comprehensive coverage of local governmental affairs.
