Carterville Fire District responded to 105 calls in 2018 – 26.5 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Carterville included 46 fires – 24 structure fires, five vehicle fires and 17 other fires.

In all, the department saw $153,250 in fire loss – or about $3,332 per fire.

The department also received 59 false calls, including one malicious call and 58 other false calls.

The Carterville Firefighter’s Pension Fund, which has two active employees and two retired or inactive employees, was $12,195 in debt as of March 2017, according to the fund’s mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $214 for every fire in 2017.
