Freshman Brooklynn Danielson of the Southern Illinois University Salukis softball team was named Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, according to an April 14 announcement by the league.
The award marks Danielson’s first career recognition and is also the first time a Saluki pitcher has received this honor during the current season. The last Southern Illinois pitcher to earn it was McKenzie Newcomb on April 28, 2025. This recognition highlights individual achievements within a program that competes in NCAA Division I softball, as noted by the official website.
Danielson appeared in three games last week against Evansville and Drake, finishing with a record of two wins and no losses. She posted a 1.00 earned run average and struck out thirteen batters over fourteen innings pitched. In those outings, she allowed only two runs and three walks while holding opposing hitters to a .196 batting average.
Her performance included six scoreless innings against Evansville on April 7, where she gave up just three hits and one walk with two strikeouts. Later in the week at Drake on April 10, Danielson recorded a career-high nine strikeouts over another six scoreless innings.
The Southern Illinois University Salukis Women’s Softball team is based in Carbondale, Illinois and plays its home games at Charlotte West Stadium according to the official website. The team is part of both NCAA Division I competitions and maintains membership in the Missouri Valley Conference as reported by their official site.
Looking ahead, Danielson and her teammates will host Northern Iowa this weekend at Charlotte West Stadium for a series beginning Friday with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m., concluding Saturday with Senior Day events including ‘Bark in the Park.’
