Southern Illinois University’s Andrew Evans was named the Missouri Valley Conference’s Pitcher of the Week, according to a March 10 announcement from the league. This marks the first time a Southern Illinois pitcher has received this honor since Alec Nigut in February 2025.

The recognition comes after Evans delivered five shutout innings during Southern Illinois’ 9-1 win over Omaha at the Cambria Classic. In that game, he struck out three batters, allowed five hits, and issued just one walk, improving his season record to 2-1.

Evans currently ranks fourth in the Missouri Valley Conference for earned run average (ERA) at 1.96 and walks plus hits per inning pitched (WHIP) at .96. He also holds second place in strikeouts within the conference with a total of 22.

Looking ahead, Southern Illinois is scheduled to play against SIUE on Tuesday at 4 p.m., followed by a home game against Southern Indiana on Friday.
