Southern Illinois University’s Andrew Evans was named the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week on Apr. 6, marking his second time receiving this honor during the current season.
The recognition highlights Evans’s strong performance and consistency as a pitcher for Southern Illinois. His achievements are seen as significant within collegiate baseball and reflect his contributions to his team’s success.
Evans delivered what was described as his best outing of the year in Southern Illinois’ recent 4-3 victory over Illinois State. During that game, he pitched eight innings—his longest appearance so far—and recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts without allowing any earned runs. The right-handed pitcher from Olathe, Kansas currently leads the Missouri Valley Conference with 50 strikeouts this season and holds the second-best earned run average at 1.47.
Looking ahead, Southern Illinois is scheduled to host rival Southeast Missouri State University on Tuesday night, with first pitch set for 6 p.m.
