De Soto ranked 512th in state in lottery ticket sales for April 2016

The Village of De Soto had the 512th highest lottery ticket net sales statewide per capita for the month of April 2016 -- down 255 spots from its March ranking.

The per capita lottery ticket sales in De Soto was $15.81 per person.

Based on monthly sales records obtained by the Carbondale Reporter, De Soto generated $24,894.50 in net sales from its two lottery retailers in April 2016, compared to $34,981 in April 2015.

The Village of De Soto is in Jackson County, and has a population of 1,575, according to 2010 census data.

Average sales for municipalities in the region in April 2016 was $15,106.72.

De Soto's top lottery retailer is Funstop Inc located at 104 N Chestnut St, De Soto, IL 62924.

Funstop Inc generated 51 percent of De Soto's April 2016 lottery ticket sales and 3 percent of Jackson County's sales that month, which was $513,628.50.

A close look at sales by city shows that the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita in Jackson County in 2015 were Murphysboro, De Soto, Elkville, Grand Tower and Ava.

Statewide, the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita were Forest View, Burnt Prairie, McCook, Mapleton and Merrionette Park.

The top five cities in the state generated $5,496,719 in net sales -- 1 percent of the state's 2015 net sales amounting to $2,793,271,709.50.
