Grand Tower ranked 707th in state in lottery ticket sales for January 2016

The City of Grand Tower had the 707th highest lottery ticket net sales statewide per capita for the month of January 2016 -- down 216 spots from its December ranking.

The per capita lottery ticket sales in Grand Tower was $16.24 per person.

Based on monthly sales records obtained by the Carbondale Reporter, Grand Tower generated $9,548 in net sales from its one lottery retailer in January 2016, compared to $8,247 in January 2015.

The City of Grand Tower is in Jackson County, and has a population of 588, according to 2010 census data.

Average sales for municipalities in the region in January 2016 was $22,957.91.

Grand Tower's top lottery retailer is Cardinal Corner located at 409 Grand Tower Rd, Grand Tower, IL 62942.

Cardinal Corner generated 100 percent of Grand Tower's January 2016 lottery ticket sales and 2 percent of Jackson County's sales that month, which was $780,569.

A close look at sales by city shows that the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita in Jackson County in 2015 were Murphysboro, De Soto, Elkville, Grand Tower and Ava.

Statewide, the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita were Forest View, Burnt Prairie, McCook, Mapleton and Merrionette Park.

The top five cities in the state generated $5,496,719 in net sales -- 1 percent of the state's 2015 net sales amounting to $2,793,271,709.50.
